Frequently Asked Questions

The group was started as a private Facebook group around Chicago in order to find other families and organize outings. Members of the private group started sharing pictures in the group about meetups and field trips. Many families from around the country started to join the group. They loved seeing the community grow and also members started sharing learning resources online.  During the pandemic, the amount of people joining the group increased substantially.  LHS started offering webinars for new homeschooling families, online meet ups for students, story time for the younger children, and classes. In 2021, we hosted our first virtual conference.

Latinos Homeschooling is now a non profit organization. We are forming important programs such as our Spanish Fluency Program and Latino Studies.  These classes are being taught by experts in these fields.

Individuals who are bilingual and bileterate switch between 2 different language systems. Their brains are very active and flexible. Research also shows that compared to their non bilingual peers, bilingual people have an easier time:

  • Understanding math concepts and solving word problems
  • Develop strong thinking skills
  • Learning other languages
  • Using logic

Also, since Spanish is the easiest language we can pass on to our children, why not have them learn Spanish? There will be more professional opportunities!

Latino Studies is US history. There are limited resources available for Latino Studies Many homeschooling families get resources from different books.  Classes will be offered by instructors with a degree in Latino Studies. This will give the students an opportunity to learn more about the impact that Latinos have made in this country. Classes will be offered to students as young as age 7.
