Our Mission

Latinos Homeschooling empowers families to lead their children’s education by building community, honoring culture, and expanding programs that support learning with pride.

Our Journey

Latinos Homeschooling began in 2015 as a Facebook community with a simple goal: connecting families near Chicago. Over time, it has grown into a vibrant national network, fostering virtual connections and lasting friendships among families across the country. Today, our online community continues to thrive, and we’re excited to expand our impact by offering workshops for parents and families and enhancing our Heritage Studies Program with live instructors. With more programs on the horizon, we invite you to subscribe to our newsletter for updates or join our Facebook community to connect with other families.

Exciting things are on the horizon for 2025—stay tuned!

Meet the Founder

Our Story

Gisela Quiñones is the founder of Latinos Homeschooling, a community created to support Latino families educating their children at home. With a background in banking management and finance, Gisela stepped away from her career to spend more time with her children—never imagining that homeschooling would become part of her journey. After feeling discouraged by a school environment that emphasized heavy homework with little joy for learning, she chose a different path for her family.

For the past ten years, Gisela has homeschooled her children and become a passionate advocate for community-centered learning. She began by organizing a small group of Latino homeschooling families in Chicago so parents and children could learn together. During the pandemic, the group’s Facebook community grew significantly, evolving into a supportive space where families share resources, encouragement, and ideas.

Through Latinos Homeschooling, Gisela has launched several educational programs designed to empower families and strengthen learning in community. She has also organized several virtual conferences and in-person gatherings in Chicago to continue building support, connection, and resources for Latino homeschooling families. Her work has been featured in several media outlets, and she has also been invited by researchers at Johns Hopkins University to share her perspective on why homeschooling continues to grow within the Latino community.

Gisela lives in Northwest Indiana with her husband, their three children, and two cats. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, taking long walks, exploring different cafés around the city, and cheering on the Chicago White Sox.

Honoring the Mothers Who Helped Build This Community

As our community began to grow, I had the privilege of meeting many parents who were on a similar journey. Along the way, countless mothers stepped forward — sharing their knowledge, offering encouragement, and becoming leaders within their own communities. Their ideas, generosity, and commitment have helped shape and strengthen Latinos Homeschooling in ways that continue to inspire us.

Our conferences and gatherings are truly a reflection of this shared vision. They were not created by one person alone, but by mothers who understand what families are looking for — support, resources, connection, and inspiration.

I have been continually inspired by the beautiful diversity within our Latino community. Families bring different learning styles, traditions, and experiences, yet we all share something deeply meaningful: a desire to provide the very best education and opportunities for our children.

Latinos Homeschooling exists because of this collective vision — mothers and families coming together, supporting one another, and building something powerful for the next generation.
